I updated my computer to 8.1, I lost my SPSWin program, so I reinstalled the program, but cannot find the data. Could you help in finding the data?

If you've formatted the partition where the data was stored, then you will have to use a recovery solution. Luckily, there are plenty applications developed for this operation and a recommended one is Recuva. You can download it through the link posted below. Install the software and use the Wizard to specify the partition where the files were stored and if it's possible the file format. Once you find the files, right click them and choose Restore to, but this time select another partition different than the one were they've found.

I'm currently using SPSWin version 4.0. My XP machine is about to pack it in, will the newer version work on Windows 10 ?

Yes, the latest version will work on Windows 10. The developers have stated in the user guide that the software requires Windows 95 or higher which means you can install it in Windows 10, but before doing that, make sure to run the installation package as Administrator.
